2016 RunningBrooke Community Celebration News

On November 5th, RunningBrooke hosted a massive party to celebrate Alexandria residents who have devoted their time and resources to help make RunningBrooke’s work a success over the past 7 years.

In attendance were more than 200 guests, including Congressman Don Beyer and his wife Megan, Mayor Allison Silberberg, city council member and school board members, nonprofit and education leaders, and so many generous Alexandria community members and supporters. Great food and drinks from local vendors and live music from Noise in the Basement and The Derds were part of the festivities. Longtime RunningBrooke supporter, The Liz Luke Team at Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc. was the Champion Sponsor of this Massive Community Celebration.

“Megan and I were so honored to be part of the great work that RunningBrooke does to help kids in our community. Brooke Curran is an Alexandria treasure, that rare person who gives her life and total aerobic capacity to help others,“ said Congressman Beyer.

Led by its Founder and CEO, Brooke Sydnor Curran, over the past 7 years RunningBrooke has mobilized thousands of Alexandria residents to get behind their mission to get kids moving to spark and enhance their academic performance.

Since its inception, RunningBrooke has raised $1 million dollars, built 2 playgrounds in the Taney Ave and Hume Springs neighborhoods, renovated a handful of others, and worked with more than 30 charity partners to provide services to countless kids in the City of Alexandria. During this time, Brooke has run one marathon every month to raise awareness and raise funds for RunningBrooke. She has run at least one marathon in every state, one on every continent, and on October 30, 2016 she ran her 100th marathon at the Marine Corps Marathon. That’s 4,400,000 marathon steps!

“It was so personally meaningful to celebrate our collective success with so many friends and supporters, and we are grateful that Congressman Beyer and Mayor Silberberg were able to attend and share some inspirational thoughts with us about the importance of getting kids in our community moving to boost academic learning,” said Curran.

Before the evening was over, the Great Hawaiian Getaway Raffle was drawn and the winner was Gayle C.! Congrats to her and her family who’ll get to spend a week in a private home in Kailua-Kona, HI.
