Move2Learn Summits
RunningBrooke has positioned itself as a thought leader by hosting Move2Learn Summits that bring world-renowned speakers to Alexandria to speak on the benefits of exercise and movement in the classroom and offer pragmatic solutions to educators, administrators, and community leaders.
The first Summit in 2016 brought nationally known health and physical education expert, Tim McCord to speak about how physical exercise fuels the brain and accelerates learning in children. In 2017, Charlene Burgeson of Michelle Obama’s Active Schools was the Summit’s keynote speaker. She says, “Through leadership provided by RunningBrooke, individuals and organizations are taking action to ensure the children of Alexandria have opportunities to participate in physical activity in school and the community. The Summit was an inspiring gathering of champions!” In January 2019, RunningBrooke hosted Dr. John Ratey, author of the groundbreaking book “Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain,” to explore how physical activity positively affects students and their brain function, heightening learning, increasing on-task behavior, and building classroom cohesion. Breakout speakers included Mike Kuczala of the Kinesthetic Classroom and Paul Zientarski of Zero-Hour PE.
