A sincere thank you for your support of Alexandria’s kids through the work of RunningBrooke. We appreciate your belief and investment in RunningBrooke to get kids active so they are more focused, alert, and motivated to learn.
Your investment continues to pay off big. In fact, it is a turning point. Working closely with Alexandria City Public Schools, our programming has now been integrated into all 16 of our public schools, activating nearly 7,000 students. We are funding programs before and after school and during the school day. We are equipping teachers in the classroom with Move2Learn™ toolkits to get kids physically active before and during academic lessons. This is a huge step forward – getting kids moving, before and during class, so they are primed to learn.
In addition to this giant leap forward, your investment has also made possible the following initiatives, all designed to get kids moving throughout the day and week:
- Playgrounds – reshaping neighborhoods through community-building, family play spaces.
- Move2Learn™ Summits – hosting national experts to influence high-level and grassroots policy changes.
- Community Partners – eliminating barriers and strategically working with before and after school physical recreation programs.

We are looking to increase our footprint in classrooms across Alexandria and maximize the number of kids who can reap the overwhelming rewards of being active. In addition, we are expanding our teacher mini-grant program where individual teachers can request funding for specific movement-oriented activities, equipment, or training. Plus, we are building an additional playground in the Arlandria neighborhood of Alexandria and hosting a Move2Learn™ Summit to educate teachers, administrators, and community partners about the impact of in-school activity on academic performance.

4-Mile Run Playground Build
How do you change a neighborhood? Build a playground! This is the exciting second phase of a two phase project. Last year, we re-purposed a derelict tennis court and turn the space into a futsal (soccer) court, and added benches, goals, hoops, fencing, and native trees and perennials. Now it’s time to build a new playground for under served kids and families to get outside and active together! Your logo will be incorporated into all permanent park and playground signage.
